Mobile Stage at Knotfest

Were taking the mobile stage down to Knotfest and are going to do some shows on the way down and back up to Oregon with it, so keep an eye out for updates

November 14th and 15th in Colombia, South America

Traveling outside of the country for the first time, most bands go to Europe, we choose Bogota because they know how to party

What did you have to lose to gain?

It seems with every day that passes it becomes harder to really exist as a functional part of the society we live in.  Your whole life is about finding something sustainable to do that allows you to be what you want to be but the only problem is that you spend most of your time finding that something that is sustainable.  Income taxes, property taxes, and insurance will run you into the ground no matter how successful you are.  This is where music comes from, and it is why it feels so good to crank up the volume, bang your head, and scream words of angst towards a failing system of greed.  It is why it feels even better when other people start banging their heads to your music, and listening to the words that you have to say.

Then they start buying your shirts, your music, paying to get into your shows…..but where do you draw the line.  Where is this fucking line that separates the financially successful bands from the financially un-successful bands.  Where is this fucking magical place that somehow monetizes art into a career for 10 times the amount of members that are even in the band, with the cost deferred down to the end user.  And what an ugly fucking place this must be, to take something so artistic, so creative, so raw and put an absolute minimum price on it.  I’m talking about every headlining band here, every band that CANT play a local bar on a Tuesday night for free because there are so many financial obligations to them playing a show that it is just not a fucking option.  They are fucking hamsters on hamster wheels, thinking that the faster they run, the further they will get.  The more they sell themselves to gain, the more they lose…..and you know that moment happens, that moment you look at your merch booth and your t-shirts are $40 and a hoodie is $65…it has got to fucking suck, it has got to rip your fucking soul out to have to charge each diehard fan $10 to get you to autograph a piece of glossy flashy paper advertisement.

They all say this is necessary and you know what….I believe them.  Because at one point in their now pointless lives they were just like us, only they were willing to trade off a large part of their soul for recognition and money….to sign a contract saying they will do what the dollar says to do.  We are at a crazy time now because when a lot of the bands had to make this decision there was no internet, therefore there was really no free way to get recognized by millions of people all at once.   Naturally there were less bands, or at least there were less bands to choose from, less known bands, way less recorded music…If you wanted to hear a new bad ass band from Nebraska you would just have to fly there and hear it in person….but that was so long ago.

You know what pisses me off more than anything…..When bands fight over money.  Whenever you see this happen it is a sure sign of forgetting where they came from.  Especially when they kick people out of the band over money, percentages, whatever it is they want that they cant have.  Meanwhile they keep getting older balder and fatter re-thinking the ideals that made them write those quintessential songs that made them who they are, who they MUST continue to be because of this hamster wheel thing.

And then you have every big metal tour coming through now playing at smaller more “intimate” venues they call them.  The same venues they all played the year they exploded, the sold out ones in the middle of the city, the ones you say you saw them at before they moved on to the amphitheaters.  Of course these shows are going to sell out, it’s what they want, but they’re not going to tell you that, there is too much pride to lose.  Heavy metal is the only genre that says “metal isn’t dead” “metal will never die”… fucking shit, no genre of music will ever die, but why don’t we hear people saying “hip-hop’s not dead” “emo music isn’t dead” “alternative music isn’t dead”….and ironically enough the only “punk’s not dead” show going on is being put on by the same people saying “metal isn’t dead”.

Remember that flashy light thing from Men in Black, that makes you forget everything up to a certain point…..A lot of motherfuckers out there need that.  They’re all trying to keep us in the fucking 80’s and 90’s, the heydays of their careers.  The internet is here now and I’m sorry but when a Youtube personality can be more popular than 90 percent of all bands out there its time to change your game, flip the script, get down with the new lingo, or go down to the hall and play fucking bingo.  I’m so tired of hearing people talk shit about DJ’s making so much money and being so huge and how it’s not art….fuck you.  They’re just as artistic as you trying to sound like some band you idolize from the 80’s.  Certain genres of music put down other genres of music and for what, what the fuck are you putting down, is this out of jealousy?  Are you pissed you can’t sell out shows anymore because everyone is at the other party you weren’t invited to?

There’s something about punk rock, you run into a member of an old school punk band and they are fucking healthy and happy looking.  Usually have glasses on because they were reading something important, and their main job now is some lifelong passion of theirs that they are doing because they enjoy, while still playing shows whenever possible.  You could carry on an intelligent conversation with most, and not one renounces anything they originally wrote about, because it was their passion, they didn’t “sell out”.  Punk rock represents open mindedness to me.  It represents the ability to write about whatever you want, change your entire sound with no repercussions, and search for what it is that makes you not want to kill people.

Go to Wikipedia and type in Warped Tour, just fucking do it, look up the lineup of all years, look at every fucking band that has ever played.  Then try and tell me that every single genre of music has not been proudly represented and given a chance.  I never heard about The Deftones getting in a fight with Eminem….because that never happened!  20 fucking years it has been going on and I can tell you first hand that I have never seen so many people waiting in line to get into a show.  A show with headlining bands that don’t play headlining slots, the band that played last the night before plays first the next day.  Completely random as far as I can see.  So you end up with stoked kids running back and forth to the 9 different stages scattered all over, but on the way to the other stage you pass the hip hop/dance stage, the comedy stage, acoustic stage.  There is so much variety and randomness, shit we even played on the acoustic stage, non acoustically.  And these bands are not necessarily always the headlining acts that “deserve” to headline amphitheaters or anything like that….but I didn’t hear one bitch about going on at 2:45 in the afternoon.

a lot of people may think I am wrong but you know what, I am right to myself, and honest, which is hard to find now days.  Ill be dammed though if you will ever see an Athiarchists shirt for sale for $40, but then again…I can always be wrong I guess.  All I know is I want to be one of those dudes wearing glasses looking good at 55…..Or I’m sorry they wont be glasses, they will be gloves and hay hooks because I am a fucking farmer, which means that by the time I’m 55 combined with banging my head I will probably be in a wheelchair….But you know what, I will be the best god damn punk rock raging gravy farmer in a wheelchair that I can be at that point in life, and I will feel good about myself and the choices that I made, I just would like to ask you, whoever you are reading this….what did you have to lose to gain?

Black Forest with Psychosomatic

Raging the parking lot of Portland and Seattle Warped Tour

This weekend, Friday and Saturday August 7th and 8th, come rage it with us in the parking lot

Friday September 18th w/ BITD at Black Forest

Back in the Dark returns with us and Under the Stairs, gonna be a fucking rager, free show, cheap beer!

ooooo were traveling back in time for this one, back before we were even fucking born.  Don’t drive, groovy skate your way on down to the black forest, get fucked up, even though this takes place in a time before the DUII, and perhaps even the skateboard, but fuck you this is our story.  Drinks will still be priced the same as they are in 2015, so you get no special deals there, other than The Black Forests already dangerously cheap drink prices.  You wont be getting any $.05 beers or any shit like that, so stop fucking asking, we may be time traveling but this is music, there are rules, mark it dude.  For every beer you drink, a percentage of that goes towards the fucking KRYPTONITE(new phrase, just coined it) bands on here Pantheon, Wade Graham, The Architex, AND The Athiarchists converting it into drugs and or bad decisions either later in the night or probably the next day, but that’s not your choice, your choice is to come to the show, and that is a choice, you don’t have to come, and no one is saying hey come to this fucking show or………or what?  No no one is fucking threatening you, so just fucking wait until two days after this show and smoke some weed, or if you want to break the law like we all do, fucking smoke in your car at the show, or outside your car, or next to someone elses car if you don’t have one, how about on your fucking skateboard?  Just bring your fucking skateboard and get a free CD, that is the only way you get a free CD, is if you bring your skateboard to the show, infact if you show us some way listening to this CD before the show has altered your life in some way, you get a free CD  So if you have never made a decision on your own in life, not putting you down or anything I’m just saying if you are ready to turn over some new leaf, grab your friends, or you know what fuck it, don’t bring any of your friends, grab some random person off the street and say hey lets go catch a show.  Once your friend figures out you’re not at BUNKO they will text you and then you can tell them where you are at….But always charge them a cover, tell them you paid for them to get in so then they will have to buy you a beer, you get a free beer, we get paid more, your friend that probably owes you 5 beers anyway ends up paying for 2,  sounds like a pretty fucking fair deal to me, shit even tell them if they buy the band shots they get a free CD, and take your cut, just like selling TV’s or stereo systems to people in a Wal Mart parking lot, make that paper, or liquid, whichever you prefer, we prefer paper liquid….allow that to soak in.

And to anyone saying ok they’re going to have this skateboard thing in every city they go to and whatever yeah yeah yeah put words in our mouth fuck you.  No.  This is the fucking CD release show(CD release tours are simply called tours), granted were going to be playing in your moms fucking living room Thursday afternoon with our shirts off and there’s not a god damn thing you can do about it.  And were going to have CD’s with us but its not going to be in the same atmosphere.  that fog of exhaled beer and a full spectrum of liquor burped, coughed, farted, and expectorated into the air, looking up through the fog to see a combination of people you know, people you don’t know, people you thought you would never see again, and people you never wanted to see again.   Read more

14 NOVEMBER(RTWG) ft Mendo Dope

So the website is all fucked up, getting it all dialed in but in the meantime wanted to let you all know about the story of NOVEMBER(road trip with a gun).  I came across Mendo Dope while learning how to make water hash, their song “Ganjas Journey” was playing in the background, really the only way to explain my reaction would be to hear the song, so check it out you can stream it for free on their website.  So after hearing that I bought all their albums(theres like 8 of them) and bumped them for 14 hours straight down to LA to meet up with Dano.  Im like duddddddde……Just like I have been with everyone I know that smokes weed, because if you smoke weed and do not get into their music, then you must be smoking fucking shitty weed.

So as I’m smoking weed at 9AM the next morning waiting for Dano to wake up because were on opposing sleep schedules, I sent them an email letting them know how fucking amazing their music was and that we should fucking mix it up sometime and or throw down in the mobile stage.  Not to change the subject but I send a lot of emails to musicians and or bands that I appreciate, and I can tell you that this is the first time I have ever gotten a response, 5 min later nonetheless.  They were pumped and I let them know we were just as stoked and would hopefully make something work out in the future.

So as we were finishing up writing songs we decided to try doing a few that you could flow lyrics over, we have done it quite a bit live with our friends in Eugene The Architex, The Overflow Federation, and others, Lomo even chopped up Mr. Bo Pringle a few years ago and it was pretty fucking cool.  So the first two we wrote actually ended up being songs, one of them 05 ECHO Groovy Skate which is definitely one of Dano and I’s favorite songs, but then again there’s 25 others on there that are our favorites as well.  So we played 14 NOVEMBER RTWG and after listening to it for a few weeks we were like……duddddde……that song has some fucking groove to it, everyone listening to it is like damn I can hear this I can hear that.  So when it came time for us to do vocals in 4 hours…..because the dude recording it Mickey Marlboro had to bail, and that’s all the time he gave us for the beer and weed we supplied him with, which was ample, but honestly all he did was sleep and be in our way the whole time, it ended up being one of the songs at the end that we really wanted to add more to, but there just wasn’t time.

So Dano is like aaaaaaallllllllllrrrrriiiigghhhhhht, wanna send that one to Mendo Dope?  I was like fuck yeah but were kind of down to the last minute here, I would hope they could pull it off, but we are definitely hovering in the realm of impossibility here….starting mixing tomorrow with Kelly Asay in Oregon…I’m still in Southern California, they would have to get it done in like 3 days….but then again if they did pull it off then they are obviously as hardcore as we are and what better way to start out a fucking friendship than by writing a song together over emailing tracks back and forth.

So I sent it to them on June 11…..9 fucking days ago, from then to when I’m writing this, with the CD now sent off to be picked up next Friday.  They got it back to me 6 days ago, Mendo Dope as fuck, so fucking mind blowing hearing it for the first time.  Its so crazy because to see all this happen in 6 weeks, from discovering their music, to listening to all of their music on repeat, to having them throw down with us, its like the full circle happened in a matter of 6 weeks.  All I know is real recognizes real, just like they say in that Icepick song, just like Mendo Dope says on their new cd, all this compounding with the current state of music in general, it shows hope in an otherwise fucked up unoriginal artistic scene.  Endangered Artists like Mendo Dope are out keeping the originality of the art intact, and for them to collab with a couple crusty dudes that aren’t even sure what kind of music they are anymore no questions asked…..strength and honor, love and respect.

And this isn’t even the whole story, so Old E from Mendo Dope says he is stoked to hear what we put down for the rest of the song…..Only Dano was in LA so we would have to do this cell phone thing, which we don’t really have figured out yet, and I was walking out of a 7 Seconds show in Portland at 1AM, meeting ACE to finish up the mix on the farm at 7AM.  So here I am for the first time laying down some hip hop vocals, totally inspired from every song Mendo Dope has ever done in creating the weed nerd genre they bring to the table.  Ace is sitting there playing the part of the producer, really getting me to accentuate the right notes in the random phrases I started to write on the whiteboard.  Got the first section done and then there was really no good way to do the Dano phone message recording thing and line it up right to sound good…….so I channeled the power of the Myrmidon as this song shifted gears and went more towards the heavier side of things.  2 Hours later we had Road Trip With a Gun….Which is titled NOVEMBER on the album but that’s what we call it, you can call the song whatever you want, just know that if you smoke weed, grow weed, or just enjoy everything about it, check out MENDO DOPE, they just dropped a new album a week or two ago, on top of a website with about 8 other albums that have songs on there that push the boundaries of creativity and education revolving around the class I narcotic marijuana.
